Well you may ask your self ‘what is all this for and why are they thrusting themselves in to the mists of the unknown and unchartered back end of the world in a tiny car with a long boat on top?’
This adventure isn’t just about driving a vehicle to....

...Mongolia and hoping to raise lots of lovely cash for Children and families that really need it. There is an underlying tide of extra adventure in these two intrepid (or maybe stupid) friends that idolize Indiana Jones and all things adventurous.

1.    The rules of the rally are to use a car of 1.2 litres or less so instead of going for a small 4x4 that we could wind our windows up and crank up the air conditioning and almost guarantee that we would make it to Mongolia without meeting any body along the way. We opted for a 1.0 car that has a 3 cylinder engine that is smaller than most motorbike engines (well I guess its 1 less cylinder to go wrong).

2.    Another challenge that we thrust upon our selves was the one of making the route as hard as possible, we could have cruised along Russian roads and the northern route but where are the armed bandits, dodgy boarder guards, mountains, desserts and countless breakdowns. We chose The ‘southern’ route through Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Mongolia. Therefore guaranteed to get into all sorts of mess and tangles and making a more memorable adventure.

3.    The Viking long boat, yes that’s right, we wanted to take a really silly object all the way to Mongolia and decided upon a Viking longboat, what else would be a more practical thing to lug half way across the world through land locked countries than a Viking longboat! (that actually is 4 foot longer than our car and weighs about as much too)
