We had a good plan today. We would get the car on the ramps up at the garage. We would then have oceans of space to measure our stencil and cut anf fit the steel belly pans. We started early so we would be able to get at least one bit done and maybe even start on the second.
We had a good plan...
I swong by the garage to check if we could use the ramps that aft (this was sort of previously arranged) but this wasn´t possible not till monday when the work would die down a bit. Fair enough instead we managed to get some stands. This woudl do but wasn´t ideal it had become a job of crawling on our backs under the car. We went down to the fire station where we had a bit more space and set up in the shade. And after a bit of cutting and pasting had our stencil ready.
Bring on the steel...
After eons of debate on where and what, we marked out the steel and Ross put the grinder to it. Eventhough he tried his hardest there didn´t seems to be much of an effect. Ok try a different blade, and yes this worked but very slowely. As Ross inched through the steel, the new grinder blade disappeared in minutes. It became clear to us that this sheet of steel needed something stronger.
To the Forge...
Brainwave! The Forge, the steelworks up the road, might be able to help. Worth a try. And sure enough Andy was willing to have a look. He looked at the sheet, than punched it with a hole punch and tried to cut it with a grinder. `That´s not steal!´ `Aint never seen sparks like that before.´ `Must be titanium or something!´ Still with the plasma cutter he made quick work of it. Cheers man! Couldn´t have done it without you!
A titanium reinforced Swift...
Not finished yet and in now according to our good plan and yes we´ll need more help from the Forge in East Cowes and Andy´s handy work but we´ll sure enough have the only titanium reinforced Swift in the world.
Keep drifting
