CYPPD - Children and Young People's Protection and Development
CYPPD is a Mongolian based non-governmental organisation that since 2002 has been helping as many youths in Mongolia as is humanly possible. They are based in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of the country, and thus many of their activities are focused there.
The ever so hard-working staff at CYPPD help children who are homeless; children who are being abused or are at risk of abuse; and children who are, or are at risk of becoming, victims of the sex trade, human trafficking and other exploitative activities such as child labour.
The organization works through raising awareness in Mongolia about child rights, running educational activities such as vocational training and giving children and young people access to their basic needs such as education, play and health services.
CYPPD have teamed up with the Mongol Rally 2009 to realize one of their greatest projects yet (with a slightly shorter project title than their name!)
A centre of education, comfort, refuge, support, washing (something many of you ralliers won’t condone we understand – but we hope you’ll be able to see the advantages for those living rough in the “urban jungle” and suffering from nasty things like scabies…) opportunity, creativity and all things fulfilling and important for young people living in most difficult circumstances. The aim for each child is that they can stop working in trades most disadvantageous to their physical and mental health and development and either return to formal education or find safer employment by attending a vocational course.
Essentially - their current projects are housed in different places all over town - and if they can build one centre that does everything in one place they will save loads of money on running costs and their capacity to help the most vulnerable kids will be massively increased. So there you have it - you will hopefully be responsible for a whole new centre to give kids in Mongolia a better crack at life.
